National Institute of Industrial Property of Chile (INAPI)

Av. Libertador Bernardo O'higgins 194, 1st floor, Santiago, Chile

The National Institute of Industrial Property of Chile (INAPI) is responsible for the administration and protection of intellectual property rights in Chile. INAPI handles patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and other forms of intellectual property, providing a legal framework that fosters innovation and creativity. One of the most significant changes in Chile's intellectual property landscape is the incorporation of provisional patents with Law 21,355, also known as “INAPI Short Law,” which modernizes the regulatory framework for trademark and patent prosecution. INAPI has been recognized for its commitment to exploring value-add non-core offerings for users, with boundary-pushing tools and services, ranking as the second most innovative Intellectual Property (IP) office in the world according to the World Trademark Review (WTR). The institute also emphasizes public outreach and support for local entrepreneurs on IP matters, including the inauguration of its Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI), which provides IP search tools and assistance/training regarding technological information and analysis.
